onsemi Demonstrates Ethernet-Controlled Automotive LED Lighting

At APEC 2026, Bryan DeLuca visited the onsemi booth to speak with Caroline Thomas about the company’s latest automotive LED lighting technology.

The demo featured an automotive headlamp system controlled using 10BASE-T1S Ethernet, replacing traditional CAN or LIN communication typically used in vehicle lighting systems.

The platform supports up to 11 LED channels, allowing flexible configurations depending on headlamp design requirements. In the demo, multiple lighting modes were controlled in real time through an Ethernet connection from a computer interface.

By leveraging Ethernet, engineers and OEMs gain access to more detailed diagnostics and control, including precise temperature monitoring and current management. This enables greater customization and more advanced functionality compared to conventional lighting control methods.

With increased data visibility and control, Ethernet-based lighting systems represent a shift toward smarter, more adaptable automotive designs.
