Interconnects

Connectors in electronics play a critical role in enabling the flow of electrical signals or power between different components. Acting as bridges between circuits, devices, or systems, connectors ensure reliable communication and functionality across various electronics. They come in various shapes, sizes, and types, each designed for specific applications, and are vital to maintaining the integrity of an electronic system. A typical connector consists of two parts: a plug and a socket. The plug is generally attached to a cable, while the socket is mounted on a device or PCB (Printed Circuit Board). When the two are mated, they establish an electrical connection, allowing the transfer of data or power. This modularity makes connectors essential in a wide range of fields, from consumer electronics like smartphones and laptops to industrial machinery and automotive systems. There are different types of connectors, including wire-to-wire, wire-to-board, and board-to-board connectors, each designed for specific use cases. Common examples include USB, HDMI, and Ethernet connectors, which are used to connect peripherals to computers, or coaxial connectors that link televisions to antennas.
